Elton John and Brandi Carlile Unite on SNL for New Album Performance
Legendary musician Elton John and rising star Brandi Carlile took to the stage of Saturday Night Live to perform two songs from their newly released collaborative album, Who Believes in Angels, which debuted on Friday.
Performance Highlights
During their appearance, the duo performed the rock-and-roll influenced track Little Richard’s Bible along with the title song from their album. John accompanied the performance on the piano, while Carlile showcased her skills on the guitar.
Musical Collaboration
This event marked the third time both artists have served as musical guests on SNL. Their collaborative history dates back to 2021, when they recorded Simple Things for John’s The Lockdown Sessions, in addition to composing Never Too Late, the theme for a documentary about John released last year.
Insights into the Album
John expressed his sentiments about the album, stating, This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life.
He further reflected on the project’s significance, saying, Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future.
For John, this album marks a new beginning in his illustrious career, which he referred to as his career mark two.
Collaborative Experience
Carlile also shared her thoughts on the creative process, describing it as both challenging and rewarding. She remarked, I’m still reeling from the fact that I got to do it. I think all ships rise with Elton John’s standards for songwriting, and it was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work in.
The collaborative nature of the project fostered a sense of unity, which Carlile likened to working with family.
Upcoming Plans
While Elton John has concluded his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour as of the summer of 2023 and has no current plans for future tours, Brandi Carlile is set to host her Mothership Weekend festival next month in Florida, followed by performances in Europe.
