Joe McFadden, a prominent figure in the music industry and veteran record label executive, passed away on March 11 at the age of 77 after a prolonged illness. His expansive career saw him holding key positions at notable companies such as EMI Music and Capitol Records, where he was a pivotal player in the growth and marketing of some of the biggest acts in music history.

A Career Spanning Decades

McFadden’s journey in the music business began in 1975 when he joined EMI. He later transitioned to Capitol Records, where he became senior vice president of sales and field marketing. During his tenure at Capitol, he collaborated with a diverse roster of artists including:

In this role, he worked closely with recognized names such as Punch Andrews and Mike Boila, especially as a sales and marketing consultant for Bob Seger. Additionally, he played a vital role in promoting Coldplay’s successful album, Viva La Vida, and its world tour from 2007 to 2008.

Joining Better Noise Music in 2008 as chief commercial officer, McFadden was responsible for strategic planning and artist development. His efforts were instrumental in the careers of several high-profile acts, including:

Family and Survived By

Joe McFadden is survived by his wife, Ellen McFadden, and his family, including his sister, Lana Waltman, and his children, Jonathan, Jeffrey, and David Torello, as well as his daughter Sara Torello Hart and four grandchildren.

Final Farewell

A memorial service is scheduled for March 22 at 1:15 p.m. at the Church of the Recession at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California, which will be live-streamed for those unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in McFadden’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, a cause he passionately supported throughout his life.
