ANAHEIM, Calif. — D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event officially opened in Anaheim on August 14, bringing together Disney fans and entertainment audiences for three days of film, television, animation, performances, exhibitions, and major announcements.

The 2026 edition runs from August 14 through August 16 at the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center. Disney has positioned this year’s gathering as one of its largest D23 events, featuring more than 50 panels, immersive experiences, a large show floor, and major presentations focused on the company’s entertainment and creative projects.

The opening day centered on the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center. The presentation was designed to give fans previews of upcoming films and television series while bringing together stars, filmmakers, and other members of Disney’s entertainment divisions.

Among the most significant developments was a major presentation from Marvel Studios. The studio revealed the principal cast for its upcoming X-Men movie, including Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Maya Boye as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.

The Marvel presentation also included updates connected to Avengers: Doomsday and VisionQuest. The announcements further demonstrate Marvel’s continued expansion of its cinematic and television storytelling, with characters and storylines appearing across multiple formats.

Star Wars was another major focus of the event. Disney and Lucasfilm presented a trailer for the second season of Ahsoka and offered information about Star Wars: Starfighter, an upcoming film starring Ryan Gosling. The projects represent continued development of the Star Wars universe across both streaming television and theatrical filmmaking.

Animation also received substantial attention during the opening day. Disney and Pixar presented updates involving several upcoming projects, including Incredibles 3 and Coco 2. The announcements provide audiences with an early look at the company’s plans for some of its best-known animated franchises.

The event also featured updates surrounding Frozen 3. Original voice performers Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad reunited at D23 to preview the third installment, which is scheduled for theatrical release on November 24, 2027. The cast also performed new music from the film during the presentation.

Beyond individual projects, the scale of D23 2026 highlights the continuing connection between entertainment studios and their fan communities. The event combines traditional movie and television announcements with live performances, celebrity appearances, behind-the-scenes presentations, interactive experiences, merchandise, and fan activities.

That combination has made D23 an important showcase for Disney’s entertainment calendar. Rather than presenting individual announcements separately, the company uses the event to provide audiences with a broader picture of its upcoming productions across theatrical films, streaming series, animation, and established franchises.

The timing is also significant for the entertainment industry. Studios increasingly use major fan events to introduce new projects, reveal casting information, present trailers, and build awareness well before films and television programs reach audiences. For viewers, these presentations provide a concentrated look at what is being developed across several entertainment platforms.

The 2026 D23 event also demonstrates how Disney continues to rely on established franchises while expanding their stories into new formats. Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Animation, and other properties remain central to the company’s entertainment strategy, while new productions and adaptations broaden the range of stories available to audiences.

For movie and television fans, the main takeaway from the opening day is the breadth of Disney’s upcoming slate. Major superhero productions, Star Wars projects, animated sequels, and family-oriented films were all represented, giving audiences a preview of entertainment planned for theaters and streaming platforms over the coming years.

D23 continues through August 16, with additional programming focused on Disney Experiences and the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony. The weekend therefore extends beyond film and television, offering a broader celebration of the performers, creators, characters, and franchises that have become part of Disney’s entertainment history.

With its combination of major announcements, returning stars, upcoming films, television projects, animation, and fan-focused programming, the opening of D23 2026 establishes the Anaheim gathering as a significant entertainment event of August. For audiences following film and television, the announcements provide an early look at several of the projects expected to shape Disney’s upcoming release schedule.
