Keeping track of weekly movie releases can be challenging, especially during the holiday season when theaters showcase many new award contenders and popular blockbusters. As we enter 2025, several films are set to debut during the January holidays.
Following the holiday rush, which included adult films like “Baby Girl,” “Completely Unknown,” and “Nosferatu,” the first weekend of January is expected to be quieter. In line with January trends, a horror film titled “The Damned” will launch, directed by Soder Palsson. The story unfolds around a 19th century shipwreck, exploring the crew’s difficult moral choices.
Additionally, “Vermiglio,” an Italian family drama set in World War II, is gaining attention after being shortlisted for an Oscar in the International Film category. This film narrates the tale of Edmond Dantes, who becomes the Count of Monte Cristo. Another French film, “The Count of Monte Cristo,” is also set to expand its theatrical presence.
This January will feature “From Ground Zero,” a Palestinian film that offers a limited release after being nominated for the Best International Film Award. It consists of 22 short films made in Gaza during the occupation. For those interested in classic films, David Fincher’s 1995 thriller “Se7en” will be re-released in IMAX to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
For family-friendly options, audiences can look forward to holiday holdovers like “Wicked,” “Moana 2,” “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
Weekly updates on new releases, ranging from mainstream hits to independent films, will keep audiences informed about what to watch in theaters. The following films are scheduled for release on January 3rd: “Vermilio” (wide release), “The Count of Monte Cristo” (wide release), “The Damned” (limited release), “From Ground Zero” (limited release), and “Se7en” (limited re-release in IMAX), along with “The Monster Beneath Us” (limited release).
