Undaunted by The Idol, The Weeknd is set to return to the big screen next year with a feature film to go with his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Abel Tesfaye officially announced the project’s May 16 theatrical release on Friday, adding that the film will co-star Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The film, also titled “Hurry Tomorrow,” was directed by “Waves” and “It Comes at Night” filmmaker Trey Edward Schultz.
The film, described as a “music-driven psychological thriller,” comes nearly four months after The Weeknd released his album Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 24th. The LP is the third in a trilogy, following 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM. .
The day after the album’s release, The Weeknd will take over Pasadena, California’s Rose Bowl Stadium on January 25th for a one-night-only live show. The singer’s stage will occupy the entire Rose Bowl floor.
The Weeknd has already shared three videos from Hurry Up Tomorrow, “Dancing in the Flames,” “Timeless” with Playboi Carti, and “São Paulo” with Anitta, which are part of the album. It is unlikely to be included in the movie version. Directed by Schultz.

The Weeknd previously announced the title of his next album in November in a lengthy statement featuring scrolling bold red text. “Yesterday was 14 years ago…we held our breath and fell into the shimmering sea late at night…trying to cleanse the wound with melody and light, wrapping ourselves in bulletproof bandages to protect what lay beneath. “There it was,” the post said. “A place where the seasons don’t change and time no longer exists. But therein lies the problem. Today feels like a never-ending spin, and I keep distorting the truth, feeling dizzy and nauseous. It’s numb. What’s underneath is screaming in silence.”
The singer continued, “More songs might help, but what can I leave to say? Isn’t it sad that I’m in a gilded cage? The one that once made me invincible. That’s what let me down on the world stage. A new trauma has surfaced and a new path has opened. After today, I’ll know who I am. Dew.”
