Matthew Alan Reiblesberger, a 37-year-old soldier from Colorado Springs, was found dead in his Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas after the vehicle exploded due to explosives he had inside. This incident occurred as he opened fire in the vehicle, injuring seven individuals, all of whom suffered minor injuries.
Following the explosion, investigators discovered a note on his cellphone. In the note, Reiblesberger described his actions as a ‘stunt’ intended as a ‘wake-up call’ for the nation, expressing feelings of despair over what he perceived to be societal decay. He emphasized that his actions were not meant to constitute a terrorist attack, stating, “this was a wake-up call.” Expressing a belief that Americans are only drawn to spectacle and violence, he suggested that his choice of action was a means of making a statement.
Authorities noted that Reiblesberger was a decorated Army sergeant who had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Undersheriff Dori Collen revealed that the note also included a broader range of grievances, covering political, social, and personal issues. The Las Vegas police department intends to release more details to shed light on Reiblesberger’s mindset leading up to the tragic event.
The explosion took place shortly after a separate terrorist attack in New Orleans that resulted in multiple fatalities. However, officials, including FBI representatives, have confirmed that there are no connections between the two incidents or evidence tying Reiblesberger to any terrorist organizations.
