The Midland Community Orchestra, alongside its Youth Ensemble, kicked off the 2025-26 season with two special free concerts held on October 25 and 26, 2025, at the Bullock Creek Auditorium. Both performances, directed by Gina Provenzano, showcased the remarkable talent of local musicians and celebrated the community’s love for music and culture.
The Youth Ensemble’s performance on October 25 was a vibrant and diverse presentation, featuring an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary pieces. Among the highlights were “Be Thou My Vision,” a timeless hymn that resonated with the audience’s sense of tradition, and excerpts from Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 3, which displayed the Ensemble’s growing mastery of classical music. In a fun twist, the Youth Ensemble also performed “Under the Sea” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, adding a lighthearted and playful element to the evening.
The following night, the main Midland Community Orchestra brought a Halloween-themed concert to life, offering a thrilling lineup of spooky and dramatic compositions. On October 26, the orchestra performed “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a piece famously associated with Disney’s Fantasia, as well as Johann Sebastian Bach’s dramatic “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” a favorite among those who enjoy the darker, more intense side of classical music. In keeping with the Halloween theme, the orchestra also played “Masquerade Waltz” and selections from Phantom of the Opera and Wicked, captivating the audience with both the grandeur and mystery of these theatrical works.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, concertgoers were encouraged to wear costumes, bringing an extra layer of excitement and creativity to the event. Following the performances, the orchestra hosted a candy giveaway, delighting children and families in attendance. The event also served as an opportunity for the community to come together for a charitable cause. Donations for the Midland County Food Assistance Network were accepted during both concerts, emphasizing the orchestra’s commitment to giving back to the local community.
These free concerts marked an important start to the Midland Community Orchestra’s 2025-26 season, with a program designed to appeal to all ages and musical tastes. The event underscored the orchestra’s role as a cultural cornerstone in Midland, offering high-quality performances while fostering community engagement and support. With the guidance of Gina Provenzano, both the Youth Ensemble and the main orchestra continue to build upon their strong reputation and look forward to a season filled with more exciting musical events.
