Mariah Carey's "christmas" Returns To Number One On Global Charts

Mariah Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has once again topped both the Billboard Global 200 and the Global Excluded US chart. Originally released in 1994, the song has achieved remarkable success, leading the Global 200 chart for a record 19 weeks and securing the number one spot in its global exclusion week.

The Billboard Global 200, introduced in September 2020, ranks songs based on global streaming and sales activity across over 200 regions, compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 chart includes data from all areas, whereas the Global Excluded US chart focuses on regions outside of the United States. The rankings are determined using a weighted formula that accounts for streaming and sales from both subscription and ad-supported tiers of music services, while excluding sales from direct-to-consumer sites.

In the week from December 20 to 26, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” achieved 197.9 million streams, marking a 176% increase from the previous week, along with 13,000 copies sold globally, which is a 5% rise. The song’s exceptional performance this holiday season has allowed it to maintain its record for the most consecutive weeks at number one, having reached this milestone several times in past holiday seasons.

“Last Christmas” by Wham! returned to the number two spot on the Global 200 with 192.5 million streams, indicating a 78% increase, as well as similar sales figures. Notably, both “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “Last Christmas” had significant streaming weeks, ranking among the top eight since the Global 200’s inception.

Other holiday classics have also made their mark, with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” rising respectively in the rankings. Michael Bublé’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” also gained traction in the top ten, exhibiting the enduring popularity of festive music during this season.

The Billboard charts provide updates weekly, allowing listeners and fans to stay informed about trending music. Data for these rankings are meticulously reviewed by Luminate to ensure accuracy, maintaining the charts’ reliability.
