Maren Morris Unveils ‘Dreamsicle’ on The Tonight Show
During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show, country artist Maren Morris showcased her latest track, “Too Good,” while also discussing her new album, Dreamsicle, released through Columbia Records.
Live Performance Highlights
Morris performed against an elaborate backdrop fashioned like a mountainside getaway, accompanied by her band. The lyrics of “Too Good” reflect a complex relationship dynamic:
“Too good to leave, too bored to stay / That’s how the people that love me behave / It’s too bad it’s taken me this long to say / I was always too good for your ass anyway.”
The performance also featured vibrant visuals that added depth to the song’s themes.
About the New Album
Dreamsicle is Morris’ fourth studio album and serves as a follow-up to her 2022 release, Humble Quest. The album includes all five tracks from her anticipated 2024 EP, Intermission. In conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Morris shared insights about the recording process, notably collaborating with producer Jack Antonoff at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
Reflecting on her experience, she stated, “I had never written or recorded in New York my entire career. It was always Nashville or LA. And then getting to work at Electric Lady was just such a time. Like, in the summer. It’s just stunning.” She noted memorable encounters, such as seeing Michael Stipe on the studio’s rooftop.
Album Influences and Sound
Morris described the sonic atmosphere of Dreamsicle as drawing inspiration from the ’70s music her mother played, incorporating elements reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac. She elaborated:
“So it was sort of this dance-y meets Laurel Canyon vibe.”
Upcoming Tour Dates
In support of Dreamsicle, Morris is set to embark on a tour starting May 30 in West Hollywood, with performances scheduled across North America until September 26. Key cities on the tour include:
- New York
- San Diego
- Los Angeles
- Jacksonville
- St. Louis
- Virginia Beach
- Nashville
- Atlanta
The European leg will kick off in November, featuring stops in major cities such as Dublin, Manchester, London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
Final Thoughts
Morris expressed her excitement about sharing the new material with live audiences, emphasizing the album’s natural evolution into a performance space. She stated:
“The acoustics, layers of harmonies, stacked synthesizers against raw vocals; it was coming to life in the studio without an audience, so I’m very excited to finally allow these songs to hit the air and feel them amplified by the energy of a crowd.”
