Jonathan Bennett wants a ‘Mean Girls’ reunion.
Bennett, who stars in this year’s Christmas special alongside her Mean Girls co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Lacey Chabert, pitched the idea of the trio reuniting for a holiday movie.
“I think what’s special about the similarities between ‘Mean Girls’ and Christmas movies is that they both have something in common, and that commonality is that they all make people happy.” Bennett told People magazine. “There’s a big connection between the ‘Mean Girls’ fan base and the Christmas movie fan base. They’re people who want to watch a movie and go away feeling happy and feeling good. I think that’s the way these movies work.”
Following his performance in a number of Hallmark productions over the years, Bennett will star in a new Hallmark+ reality competition series titled “Finding Mr. Christmas,” created to replace Bennett in the lead role. He is scheduled to serve as the host. His holiday credits include “Season’s Greetings from Cherry Lane” and “Christmas on Cherry Lane.” Lohan stars in the Netflix romantic comedy Our Little Secret, co-starring Ian Harding. Chabert is at the helm of another Netflix release, “Hot Frosty.”
Bennett added, “Having Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, and myself in separate Christmas movies perfectly encapsulates the brand and goal of what we want to do as actors and storytellers, which is to bring joy to people.” I think it satisfies Now the question is, when can we put that together and make a Christmas movie with Lacey Chabert, me, and Lindsay Lohan? That’s what I’m looking for, and that’s a lot. Let’s do it because we think it will make people happy.
Mean Girls was released in 2004. The Broadway musical based on the original film was recently made into a movie, and this April marks its 20th anniversary.
