Jason Momoa Joins James Gunn's Dc Universe As Lobo

Jason Momoa is set to return to the DC movie universe, but this time in a new role as the villain Lobo. Previously, Momoa portrayed Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe from 2016 to 2023, featuring in two standalone films as well as various cameos. The announcement marks a significant shift as Momoa joins the new direction of the DC Universe under the leadership of director James Gunn.

The actor shared the news on social media, expressing his excitement about playing Lobo, stating that it would be “crazy” if he were cast in the role. In response to his announcement, Gunn welcomed Momoa on his platform, indicating a positive beginning to their collaboration.

Momoa’s official introduction as Lobo is expected to occur in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow,” which stars Millie Alcock in the lead role. Although a specific release date for the film has yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to premiere in 2026, with production set to begin in early January. Details regarding the film’s plot remain undisclosed.

The new DC Universe is set to kick off with “Superman,” featuring David Corenswet in the titular role. Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, this film acts as a soft reboot of the previous DC Extended Universe, which includes various forms of media such as live-action films and television series. Alongside Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan will portray Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor, among others.
