La Wildfire Music Worker Relief: Resource Guide (updating)

Fierce wildfires have severely impacted the greater Los Angeles area since January 7, resulting in significant damage and loss of life. The fires have led to evacuation orders affecting nearly 180,000 residents, with at least five fatalities and thousands of structures damaged or destroyed. In response, various music industry organizations are working to provide relief for workers affected by the crisis.

MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, is offering financial assistance to music professionals affected by the fires. This support includes short-term disaster relief, such as $1,500 in cash assistance and a $500 grocery card. MusiCares focuses on covering immediate costs like hotels and food for individuals who have evacuated, and may also assist with long-term needs related to home damage, medical issues, and equipment loss. MusiCares has launched a Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort with an initial $1 million contribution to support affected music professionals.

Additionally, a microgrant fund was established to help early and mid-career producers, engineers, and creators who lost workspace or equipment due to the bushfires. The fund is also open for donations.

The Entertainment Community Fund is providing emergency financial assistance to performing arts and entertainment professionals in crisis, covering essential living costs such as housing and medical expenses. Applicants from the Los Angeles wildfires can submit their requests via the fund’s website.

Mental health support is available from Backline, a nonprofit organization that offers resources for musicians. They provide assistance through a case submission form and a 24/7 distress hotline for urgent needs.

Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has also initiated a disaster relief fund aimed at helping musicians and industry workers in Los Angeles County. The fund addresses losses related to equipment, medical costs, and essential living expenses. Applications for relief are being accepted.

The Guitar Center Music Foundation announced it will support local musicians and music programs affected by the fires with one-time grants to replace lost or damaged equipment. Applications will be accepted until February 28.

As the situation evolves, further updates and resources will be available to assist those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.
