Three months after the abrupt end of Jane’s Addiction’s reunion tour due to an onstage altercation, the band seems to be regrouping in the studio, albeit without their lead singer, Perry Farrell. Bassist Eric Avery recently shared a video from a recording session where he was working on new music alongside drummer Stephen Perkins. Avery mentioned looking forward to the involvement of guitarist Dave Navarro, suggesting plans for a new project in 2025.
This collaboration isn’t the band’s first attempt at creating music without Farrell. Following Jane’s Addiction’s original disbandment in 1991, Navarro and Avery produced an album under the name Deconstruction, although Perkins’s participation was complicated by label issues and concerns about potential confusion with Farrell’s other project, Porno for Pyros.
Deconstruction released one album in 1994 before Navarro moved on to join the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Recently, Navarro has been reflecting on this past work, especially since it has become available on streaming platforms again. He expressed appreciation for the unique musical synergy he shared with Avery in that project, describing it as more cinematic and soundscape-focused than traditional music.
While it remains uncertain whether the current recordings will evolve into something akin to Deconstruction 2.0 or an entirely new venture, the recent developments come on the heels of Jane’s Addiction’s canceled reunion tour. The tour was cut short following an incident where Farrell attacked Navarro during a concert in Boston. This event, along with concerns about Farrell’s mental health and behavior, ultimately led to the band prioritizing their well-being and safety.
Shortly after the tour’s cancellation, Farrell’s wife mentioned that he was scheduled for medical appointments and would be taking time to reflect and recuperate after the confrontation. The situation has left fans disappointed, as the band was previously working on new music and had high expectations for their reunion.
