Charli XCX Teams Up with Takashi Miike for New Film Project
Pop sensation Charli XCX is set to venture into the world of film alongside renowned Japanese horror director Takashi Miike. The project, which is currently untitled, marks a significant step in her evolving career and is the second initiative under her newly established production company, Studio365.
About the Film
While details about the film’s storyline remain under wraps, Miike, famed for his intense and often violent narratives in classics like Audition (1999) and Ichi the Killer (2001), suggests that audiences can expect a horror-themed experience. Screenwriter Ross Evans will be penning the screenplay for this intriguing collaboration.
Charli’s Expanding Acting Career
In recent years, Charli XCX has balanced her music career with acting endeavors. She is also involved in the upcoming A24 film The Moment, directed by Aidan Zamiri, which is based on an original concept developed by XCX herself. The story has been adapted into a screenplay by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes.
Additionally, Charli XCX is slated to star in several projects, including 100 Nights of Hero directed by Julia Jackman, featuring a cast that includes Emma Corrin and Nicholas Galitzine, as well as I Want Your Sex directed by Gregg Araki, where she will act alongside Olivia Wilde. She recently completed filming Erupcja, helmed by Pete Ohs in Poland.

Reflecting on her experience with director Pete Ohs, Charli XCX stated: “The way [Ohs] talked about making his films felt akin to making an album… our processes felt linked in some kind of way, and it felt right and exciting to pursue some kind of collaboration.”
Ohs praised her acting abilities, noting: “Charli is an excellent actress. She understands what it’s like to have a camera pointed at her and knows how to convey emotions through various forms of communication.”
Previous Film Work and Upcoming Performances
Before this new film, Charli XCX primarily engaged in voiceover roles, including her performances in The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and UglyDolls (2019). She also contributed as a composer for the film Bottoms.
Recently, Charli XCX made headlines with her electrifying set at Coachella, where she was joined on stage by notable artists such as Lorde, Billie Eilish, and Troye Sivan. Looking ahead, she has additional festival dates lined up, including appearances at Primavera Sound Porto and Lido Festival.
