Adam Sandler continues to make headlines with his significant partnership with Netflix, marked by a $250 million deal. In line with the holiday season, Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for “Happy Gilmore 2,” a sequel to the beloved 1996 sports comedy. The teaser was shared by Sandler, celebrating both Christmas Day and the onset of Hanukkah.
The sequel is set to premiere in 2025 on streaming platforms. Sandler will reprise his iconic role as Happy Gilmore, a struggling ice hockey player who becomes a golf sensation. Kyle Newacheck, known for co-creating “Workaholics” and directing the series “What We Do in the Shadows,” will helm the film, succeeding Dennis Dugan from the original. Key original cast members, including Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, are also returning.
Newacheck previously collaborated with Sandler on the 2019 Netflix film “Murder Mystery.” The release of the teaser coincides with Netflix broadcasting two NFL games live for the first time. New faces joining the cast include Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, Kid Cudi, and NFL star Travis Kelce, who appears in the trailer. Benny Safdie, known for his role in “Uncut Gems,” is also set to have a significant part in the sequel, as confirmed by Sandler.
The screenplay for “Happy Gilmore 2” was co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, mirroring their collaboration on the original film. Viewers can catch a glimpse of the upcoming film by checking out the teaser shared online.
