Former Mötley Crüe singer John Corabi has spoken candidly about his experience being fired from the band. Corabi, who took over the lead vocals from Vince Neil during the band’s turbulent years from 1992 to 1996, expressed that while he was disappointed by the decision to bring Neil back, he also felt a sense of relief due to the internal drama within the group.
In an appearance on the YouTube show “Rock Daydream Nation,” Corabi shared insights about the intense atmosphere he faced during his time with the band. He described Mötley Crüe’s environment as one filled with drama, and upon learning about Neil’s return, he felt as if a significant burden had been lifted off him. “It felt like someone lifted a 300-pound man off my shoulders,” he explained, acknowledging the mixed emotions he experienced.
Corabi recounted how, unbeknownst to him, discussions about bringing Neil back were already happening behind the scenes. He was informed by executives at their record label that they planned to reinstate Neil, which led him to feel sidelined in his role.
He also reflected on the complexities of band dynamics, describing his attempts to navigate relationships and music-making with members Tommy Lee and Mick Mars, stating that it was challenging to keep track of the constant changes and conversations regarding the band’s future. Corabi’s time with Mötley Crüe ended when Neil returned, marking the end of a chapter that he recalls with both disappointment and a sense of liberation.
