Edwina Louise Dorch is an accomplished author of five novels who lives on a barrier island in the Atlantic Ocean and writes travel romance novels that take place in the West Indies and throughout the African Diaspora.

Diaspora Storytelling

The Artist & Her Lover: A Vacation Travel Romance: Part I: The artist travels to Jamaica. Part II: The artist travels to the Sahara Desert, and Part III: The artist travels to the island of Hispaniola, where both the Dominican Republic and Haiti are located.

Genre Fusion

Dorch’s romance trilogy is a combination of literary fiction and genre fiction or upmarket fiction wherein she combines the travelogue sub-genre with the quest sub-genre. In other words, the artist is on a quest to solve a problem, and readers come along for the journey.

Love Triangles

Love triangles are a common narrative device in theater, literature, and film, and there is a love triangle in each part of the trilogy. Only two people in love triangles will live happily ever after. Thus, there is rivalry, unrequited love, and jealousy in each novel in the trilogy.

However, what is unique is that the lovers and rivals are from different countries, Jamaica, the Sahara, or the Dominican Republic. Now that’s different!.

Steamy Imagery

There are a few steamy scenes, but they don’t overshadow the plot. Further, references to musicians, artists, and their artwork are all symbols because Dorch uses concrete images to represent abstract political or cultural ideas.

Recognition and Awards

Dorch’s exceptional storytelling has earned her several accolades, including the 2023 American Writing Award for Best Inspirational Novel and a 2024 finalist spot in the murder mystery category. Dorch illustrated her young adult graphic novel and has created half of her book covers. And, Dorch’s artwork is showcased in galleries along Florida’s A1A highway, capturing the beauty and depth of her creative vision

A Brand with Purpose

Art in the West Indies and the African Diaspora is substantially Intuitive art, wherein the focus is on the experience of creating art rather than on art’s commercial value. And, there are a considerable number of Naïve artists in the African Diaspora, artists who choose not to obtain a formal, academic education in anatomy, art history, technique and perspective and are genetically gifted.

Part I is available from Amazon Books and Barnes & Noble retailers. Parts II and III are due out during the holidays.
