The Isle of Wight-based duo Wet Leg has made headlines with their latest single, “Catch These Fists,” marking the inaugural teaser from their forthcoming sophomore album titled Moisturizer, set to launch on July 11.

The duo, consisting of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, showcased their new music during a performance on The Tonight Show, where they were accompanied by their full live band. Teasdale captured the essence of the song in a striking boxing-inspired outfit complemented by silver gloves, adding a unique visual flair to their performance.

“Catch These Fists” was introduced alongside a vibrant and chaotic music video that features a playful narrative, including an impromptu kidnapping scene. Commenting on the track, Chambers expressed, “We were just kind of having fun and exploring,” indicating a creative approach to their music-making process.

The recording of Moisturizer was led by producer Dan Carey, emphasizing the band’s desire to create an engaging experience for live performances. Teasdale shared that the lyrical themes are deeply personal, inspired by her current relationship. “I thought I was straight all of my life until I met my current partner — these love songs are about them,” she explained. “I just found it so much more interesting and empowering to be writing love songs where I’m not lusting over a man — it feels a little bit different.”

A Glimpse Into Their Journey

Wet Leg gained recognition following the release of their self-titled debut album in 2022, which was nominated for the prestigious 2022 Mercury Prize and earned them Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance. They were also up for a Grammy for Best New Artist.

In a prior discussion with Rolling Stone, the duo reflected on their creative process, emphasizing that they were not in a rush to produce their second album. “Hopefully we have a bit of time next year to brainstorm. If we write an album in a week that we love, that’s sick, but if it’s actually gonna take a year… we’ll have to wait and see,” Chambers remarked, underscoring the importance of capturing their artistic vision authentically.
