Author Neil Gaiman has publicly denied allegations of sexual assault following a New York Magazine article featuring accusations from multiple women. In a statement posted on his website, Gaiman proclaimed, “I have never had non-consensual sex with anyone. Ever,” refuting a cover story that included claims from eight accusers. This is not the first instance of such allegations, as some accusers had previously shared their experiences on a podcast in 2019.
The New York Magazine article detailed alleged abusive behaviors, including instances where Gaiman reportedly forced women to perform degrading acts. Specific allegations were made by former nanny Scarlett Pavlovich, who claimed Gaiman assaulted her multiple times and filed a police report against him in New Zealand in January 2023, though a spokesperson indicated the issue was resolved.
Gaiman’s legal representatives labeled the article’s claims as “false and deplorable.” In his recent statement, he reflected on past communications with his accusers and maintained that all relationships he engaged in were consensual. He asserted that many stories being shared are either entirely fabricated or distortions of actual events.
Another accuser, Kendra Stout, recounted her experience with Gaiman, describing a lack of established boundaries during what she characterized as a dominant-submissive relationship. She also filed a police report regarding her experiences last October.
The emergence of these allegations has impacted Gaiman’s work, leading to the suspension of several film and television adaptations based on his books, including the project “The Graveyard Book.”
