In a recent interview with The Standard, Mirren revealed, “I never liked James Bond. I never liked the way women were in James Bond. … The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism.”

Mirren advocates for telling authentic stories about women in intelligence roles, emphasizing their valiant contributions throughout history, such as those in the French Resistance during World War II.

Thoughts on Female Casting in the Franchise

The conversation surrounding potential female casting for the role of 007 has been a topic of discussion in Hollywood over the past few years. However, Mirren has made it clear that she does not support changing the character’s gender, given the history attached to Bond.

Collaboration with Pierce Brosnan

Currently, Helen Mirren stars alongside former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan in the Paramount+ crime series MobLand, where Brosnan plays the husband of Mirren’s character, a gang leader. Mirren expressed her admiration for Brosnan, stating, “I’m a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan, I mean massive fan. Obviously, he’s gorgeous and everything.” She praised him for being a talented performer as well as one of the nicest collaborators in her experience.
