Barry Can’t Swim Announces New Album ‘Loner’ and Debuts Single ‘Different’
Scottish electronic producer and DJ Barry Can’t Swim has officially announced the release of his second studio album, titled ‘Loner’, set to drop on July 11 via Ninja Tune. The album comes on the heels of his successful debut LP, ‘When Will We Land?’
Alongside the announcement, he has shared the album’s dynamic new single, ‘Different’. The track is characterized by its intricate beats and electronic flourishes, with the term “Different” marking a noteworthy transition within the song. This track represents the third preview of the upcoming album, following earlier releases ‘Still Riding’ and ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’.
Insights into ‘Loner’
In a recent press release, Barry Can’t Swim, whose real name is Joshua Mainnie, described ‘Loner’ as a more authentic reflection of his personal experiences over the past year. He remarked, “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year.”
This forthcoming LP aims to delve into his personal journey, posing significant questions both to himself and his listeners.
Album Trailer and Creative Direction
An intriguing album trailer accompanies the album announcement, depicting Barry Can’t Swim in a surreal setting featuring a red plastic chair in a blue waiting room alongside three dogs and a vending machine filled with award ribbons. The imagery progresses to scenes of him in bed while an individual in a suit adorned with award ribbons lurks outside in a brightly colored hallway.
